Wednesday WisdomAre you using the summer to build your scholarship list? I recommend that students use a little bit of their downtime over the summer building a scholarship list, organized by deadline, so they don't miss any application deadlines. The easiest scholarships to find are those offered by your university specifically. They'll be centralized on a university website, and may even all have the same deadline. However, there are also thousands of scholarships out there from organizations other than your university! The challenging part of this is that you have to seek them out. You have to SEARCH for them! If you want to know where to search for scholarships, check out my blog post here. You can also sign up for the free scholarship webinar tomorrow, or check out our course, which guides you through creating your own customized list of scholarships. ResourcesMy Learning Coach Today I want to share a resource for students with disabilities: My Learning Coach. Did you know that if you have a registered disability, you can often receive grant funding to hire an academic coach? My Learning Coach can help guide you through this process and also connect you with a coach who specializes in working with students who have more challenging academic hurdles. If you reach out to them, tell them you were referred by ChooseYourUni! I used to coach for them before my own business started taking off and I guarantee you, they are great coaches. Spectrum of Light Support Services Ariela Kaldorf is the founder of Spectrum of Light, where she works with families to learn how to deal with challenging behaviour problems. They work with families with kids of all ages with a variety of behavioural challenges, including those related to autism, ADHD, and much more. Ariela will be leading a free webinar called Behaviour 101 on July 16th, where parents can learn more about what leads to particular behaviour and what it means. Your kid's behaviour is a form of communication, and she can help you decode it. You can learn more about Spectrum of Light here, and register for the free webinar here. Wednesday Wisdom I have worked with hundreds (maybe even thousands) of university students, and something I've heard a lot is that they just want to finish their degrees and get out into the world. I always ask these students "Why? What are you in such a hurry for?" I know that 4 years can seem like a long time - as I say this, I'm in my 5th year of a 6-year PhD that I thought I would finish in 4 years. So I get it! But most students only do one degree. So this could very well be your only...
Wednesday Wisdom January is a tough time of year. We got a week or so when the university shut down, which is nice, but getting organized in January is a whole other story! It feels like it takes the whole month just to get back in the groove, and then suddenly you're 1/3 of the way through the semester. A lot of students who feel like this will decide it's time to "catch up" because they feel behind. And while there may be things that you need to catch up on, this can also turn into a trap...
